Dear Rick, Mary and all Catsailor Forum readers,

We wanted to make sure you all are personally invited to Syracuse this year. We are excited to be including F18's. Plus we are planning on a shorter course for Waves. I know Central New York weather in May is not everyone cup of tea, but there will not be a lot of tea drinking going on wink

Talked to some of the Wave guys about the regatta, and let them know they are welcome. Have several of the PIB folks that are thinking about it, and Jack Woehrle (this year;s Ntl Champ) says he can make it. I believe I can as well.

What do you say Wavers.., let's go have some fun.
Rick

This is a general posting I sent out to promote Madcatter, I'm reposting here as an FYI. Note link to spectator boat, your fans can come out on the water to watch!
MKA

Come one, come all, to the 34th annual Macatter Regatta.
May 21, 22, & 23 in Upstate (near Syracuse) New York!

If you have never been to a Hobie regatta, now is a great time to start. It's a blast, especially this one. Cat sailors from all over the NorthEast, (and a wild bunch from Porto Rico, with cases of RUM) come every year, to brave the cold and race. This year we are excited to have a start for the F18 Class!

On Friday there is a Guest Expert Program with Pedro (The Doctor) Colon
PR Hobie 16 National Champion, followed by a distance race.

Saturday and Sunday races are run by a Hobie Class Association PRO ensuring quality race courses. In between the parties, there are special clinics for beginners on how to race. We are really pushing hard to have a big Wave class this year.

Any questions about Macatter, here is the link to the NOR
http://www.fleet204....orcurrent.shtml

Plus our Fleet web site
http://www.fleet204.com/

We are also having a spectator boat this year for anyone that wants to come out on the water to watch!

Actually, we race at PIB that early, and we are only about 200 miles farther south, albeit surrounded by water making it more temperate.
I DO NOT OWN a drysuit, and WILL NEVER. If it is that cold, I will watch. But, I hope to be there.

I made it to Madcatter for 5 or 6 years straight until I started sailing Nacras... I wish I could go this year.. too many conflicts, particularly a regatta in memory of Joe Manganello who taught me how to sail.

Todd,
Is the conflict solvable for next year...Or is it just one of those things that will be what it is?

They are taking all F18's aren't they? Not just Hobies.

Hi Jack,

I'm THRILLED that your coming/looking into coming to Madcatter 34! Looking forward to meeting/sailing with you smile

RE: How cold is it?
The main thing one can say about the Syracuse weather in May is that it's extremely unpredictable. We've had Madcatters that have been 70 degrees/sunny and ones that it's snowed. (That year I thought Hobie Jr. was going to turn into a popsicle)

There is a weather link on our web site that you may find helpful.

I always make an issue of the cold so that people can plan and dress accordingly. Madcatter can promise you a lot of things, but predicable weather isn't one of them confused

Mimi

How cold can it be, after all? It's latitude is only 50 miles or so farther north than Put in Bay, and it is always beautiful and warm at the Bay. smirk

The distance race sounds like fun. Waves can do that I assume.

You crazy, Jack? In that case, you probably want to do the Sandusky Steeplechase, too. You gotta be bonkers to do that.., although I did it. grin

Wonder if I should hook up my Hooter?

I decided to take my Taipan 4.9 north this year, rather than just let it sit out back, all tied down for hurricanes. So, I will probably race it in the Steeplechase.

Didn't know about the round Middle Bass. Cool, if I have sobered up by then. smile

Remember I talked about it at the Nats. It will start off my friend's cottage on Middle Bass...you can go either way. First one around the island wins. Followed by a cookout and drinkoff.

Abbey and Scarpelli are in.
