"with 5-6knots he end the last regatta hanging out to leeward to fly one hull"
Got this from http://catsailingnews.blogspot.com/2010/04/hanging-out.html

It sounds logic that if this hanging out makes the hull come out of the water your speed will be higher due to less drag. On the other hand you also loose some pressure in the sails at the same time...

Any of you who tried this already? I have but only for fun.

Hi Gilo

Here we have lots of low wind regattas, sometimes under 5knots.
I donĀ“t know how efficient this really is, the only thing I can say he won 3 straight regattas in those conditions! ahead of the fleet by far.
Other problem with our river is that you have less buoyancy due to fresh water so less drag is a must for sure.

Cheers,
Martin

It's a bit of a toss up because you create more drag in the leeward hull and it can all go wrong in one gust too many!!!

nds on the boat. Most modern beach cats are faster on one hull, but some daggerboard-less designs are about same speed one hull out or not. It is also a "nice" expierence, if you capsize.

Cheers,

Klaus
