This is the first regatta I have the opportunity to go to this year. I know Trey used to race this one when he was in Raleigh and it is a points race this year. I'm curious as to who might attend on a TheMightyHobie18 or open class spin. I currently own a stock TheMightyHobie18 and the frankenboat is getting new cloth. If the Wrightsville TheMightyHobie18 solo crew is coming I will bring the stock and race solo, if not I can get crew for either boat. It would be nice to see enough H18s to make class.

I'll sail the Governor's Cup, as will much of the Isotope class. It would be great to get other catamarans there as well.

Regards,
Eric

Eric,
You are certainly one of the most active cat sailors in NC. Is there any way to communicate with NC cat sailors? Does EMSA have any type of forum I am not aware of? It would seem that there are certainly enough boats in the triangle area to form a fleet and hold regular races at Jordan, Kerr or even Falls.

Mike, are you on the EMSA yahoo group? That seems like the best way EMSA members have been communicating.

MIke, I may try to make that one. I know a couple of the Wrightsville Beach guys and I will be in Duck the weekend before for the Duck Cup (distance race). That one is always a blast. You should try to open up that weekend and race with your 18. You'll have more fun than me with that spin flying. If there were more boats that would show up for an open class at the Govenor's Cup I would certainly consider going.
I agree about getting some racing going at Jordan. I sail there quite a bit and currently I am only about 45 minutes away. If you ever want to meet up for a sail hit me up at my e-mail. Hobie16hullflyer (at) yahoo (dot) com

I'm not sure about Governor's Cup. It's always on my anniversary weekend and we're normally at the beach that weekend, but we will be in Raleigh this year. So it maybe a possibility, especially if there is a good turn out of H16s (I doubt if there would be any F18s there) Loyd and I will be a Duck Cup the week before on the F18 and I'll be at Sail the Bay, Va Beach this weekend with my daughter on my H16. Hope you can make it to one of these.

Finances are really limiting my travel again this year. Its possible that I will make the Duck Cup but the stated $50 registration is a little steep if no food is provided. I have access to a spot on Kerr to leave one of my boats this year so the Governors Cup race works for me.
I am not part of the EMSA yahoo thing and really do not know how the yahoo group thing works. With bicycle clubs the yahoo thing seemed more like a spam club, too many duplicate messages all the time. I would assume the EMSA yahoo to be similar. I really would like to have more contact and meet up with folks more often locally or around Myrtle to sail or whatever.

I thought the duck cup was only 5 bucks for registration. I could be totally wrong, but I remember this being the cheapest regatta of the year. Maybe killing all of those brain cells in college is catching up to me. Someone else chime in and tell me I'm not remembering this wrong.

As far as the cheapest - last year's Bare What you Dare (Keowee, SC) was a free regatta!

I am planning to be at Sail the Bay next weekend. Duck Cup would be fun but is not likely. I really hadn't considered the Governor's cup, it seems like a bad time of year to have a regatta on a lake.

Duck Cup was $5 per day last time I sailed it. You could choose to sail one day or both. By far my cheapest regatta of the year.

When did Gov Cup become a point's regatta? Not that points have meant anything to sailing in this area since Div 9 was alive.... But It would be great to see some boats here.

I'm checking with Tracie - I believe that may have been a typo or copy/paste oversight.

It appears that this was the case. As far as I know, the Governor's cup is not an EMSA points regatta yet. I apologize for the misinformation.

Points accumulation haven't received much focus in the last several years for EMSA - so please don't let this swing your regatta choice away from the Governor's cup.

If my sails are back I will be at the Governors Cup. I am trying to work out the Duck Cup currently as I will be there for a wedding the Thursday before. If I were to sail the frankenboat solo at the Duck are there chase boats to help me right it should I get overzealous?

As with most lakes throughout the summer, the winds can be variable. I've been to one GovCup where there was barely a breath of wind and we only got in two races all weekend. Twice, we've had winds of 15-20kts. Most of the time, it's in between. June is early enough in the season that we usually have wind.

Regards,
Eric

I've been up at Kerr several weekends recently and the wind was good. Seems to channel up the arms and its wide enough the tree line should have little effect off the point. Just got the registration finished on the '84 so I think its going to the lake soon.

Wind forecast for this weekend is 5-10 knots - then again that was the predection for this past weekend when we had 7-15. It isn't supposed to be quite so hot with rain overnight.

I'm hoping for a good sailing weekend.

We have first and second place trophies made for Open Multihull Class, so come on out!

Regards,
Eric
