www.sailinganarchy.com reports that:
Last night the world lost one of its greatest sailors. Reg White passed away from a heart attack at only 74 years old. He had just finished racing with one of his Grandsons on his new Brightlingsea One Design.
Reg and Rodney Marsh designed the Tornado Catamaran back in the mid sixties. Along with his brother in law John Osborn he won the Tornado worlds, European championships as well as the Gold Medal for England in the 1976 Olympics. Reg was twice awarded "Yachtsman of the Year" in the UK. He was also made a MBE (Member of the British Empire) for services to Yachting.
Reg was also heavily involved in development of the "C" Class catamarans, and won the Little Americas Cup several times in the sixties. He also built and sailed Crossbow, which at the time was the fastest sailboat in the world.
He was still very active in racing and building Catamarans including the Spitfire and Shadow.
