Posts: 267 Ocean Springs, MS | I have no idea who is selling this 20 but I bought a 98 I20 last year and i can't believe what an amazing ride it is. The I20 or the N20 (same thing) is known as the cadillac of catamarans. most youngsters don't buy cadillacs because they think its old and the new stuff is "better". They haven't driven a cadillac. I've driven a cadillac. Its butter! and fastest. If you can score an N20 for less than 10K, grab it fast! No matter the race, the N20 is still the boat that is considered the "boat to beat".
2000 NACRA 20 -- Excellent condition, fresh water only. Upgraded rudders, dagger boards, self tacking jib, tramp, standing rigging, hardware. Two mains, two jibs, two spinnakers. $8900, 608-628-9590 (WI)(June)

CC Good news Joe, your boat is a 2000, not a 98.

Posts: 2,490 On the Water | Unless I'm mistaken, the last two digits in the VIN should be the year, they are 00.
Sometimes back then, when stamping the VIN the factory distinguish the digit 0 from the letter O with the line through it (like this: ө), which is confusing because it looks like an 8(IMO). Sometimes the factory would hand write it into the finish. It couldn't be 8's, that would make the boat an 1988 (didn't exist yet).
In your case, I believe the boat to be a 2000 for the reasons mentioned above. FWIW, when I purchased it, the seller represented the boat to me as a 2001, which didn't match the VIN. So, I checked with Jack at the factory and he confirmed that it was a 2000, and the title listed it as a 2000, and Boat US insured it as a 2000. I could be wrong, but I just don't believe that there is any way possible that the boat is an 98.
Crap, the character didn't work. To see it, type (NUM LOCK) on + ALT + 1257 from the number keypad.

CC 1998, its probably as soft as butter too! what a Freudian slip! one of my favorite designs is the paper tiger, it is still a damn good 14 footer after all these years. agreed not all things new are better.

Posts: 267 Ocean Springs, MS | well, for what its worth i did mean butter. I'm not attacking my other boat which is an 18HT but when you compare the 2 boats the HT is NOT forgiving at all and is a real hand full to sail well(i don't really sail it well). It is very twitchy and extremely sensitive to weight distro. I've seen it sailed in the hands of a pro and it can fly no doubt but the N20 is an elegant work horse with no real comparison. Oh and yes 303 protectant will keep you tramp looking brand new black and will help you with executing more aggressive tacking. It'll take a good 2 seconds off your time if you embrace the slide and can hook up as you are jettisoned off the other side of the tramp. It takes a little practice but it makes it more sporty!!!

Unregistered | one skipper was joking about "lubricating" everyone's tramp as he walked up to the skippers meeting... as his secret strategy
another skipper overheard him and suggested he would never see his "jewels" again... | | |
