Rather than using clevis pins for the stays does anyone use any snap hooks. I am simplfy the setup procedure and keep myself from dropping and losing pins. I was thinking about this. Tell me what you think. What sort of working load should it be able to handle?

Sea Dog Snap Hook

I would not do that. I have seen those things break quite often when used on jib clews. The working strength is about 400-500lb on your typical stainless snap like that. That is barely enough to support the weight of two people.

Not good...

A guy tryed to use them on a mari cat and wellit didn't end up to well and he had the top of the line ones. My friend and i had to get the clubs power boat to go over and rescue him. I didn't look good and now he hasn't sailed for over 3 months. Dont try it because one you wont be able to adjust things and its not strong enough.

I rarely disconnect my shroud wires. I coil them on the tramp and tie them down with velcro ties. I have a 1/4 quick release pin with a lanyard for my forstay. If you do not remove all of your wires for transport, set up is much easier and quicker.
