Hello All-
Looking for links to your favorite splicing sites or books where I can see how to do the different types. I need to see step by step photos or video. Practicing the little I know and hope to get better.
Thanks

Joanna

after wasting time with standard samson style fids (I received for free on this forum and will send to anyone who wants them), I purchased the Brion Toss Splice Tool at this forums suggestion. its is a good if not great tool.

I also bought the dvd but found it not very worth MY while because after about 20 seconds of watching it, I decided to never, ever, ever, even try to splice double braid

i also like Selma style fids a lot.

Practice with new line - not old stuff - which can be nearly impossible to splice. For some of the smaller line sizes used on cats most of the fids in a splicing kit are useless. I'd buy a small one with a hollow cavity in the back and a pusher tool. The pusher tool can be used as a fid on really skinny lines - just insert it through the middle of the outer piece of line and tape the bit that will be the inner piece to the tip and pull it back through.

I was taught by a pro rigger who used drill bits, the guts of ball point pens or about anything else that came to hand. I guess the Toss wand might offer a slight time saving for some jobs.

Chris.

order a small splicing needle and a small splicing fid
you'll be able to work with anything between 3mm and 10mm

I use small sewing machine needles for splicing R/C sailboat control lines.

How about splicing Marstrom mainsheet 1/8 inch grey Vectran to typical 3/8 inch mainsheet? Robbie Daniel knows how but me- not so much... Sorry about lack of metric conversion. (thank you Stupid Ronald Reagan.)

Getting from 10mm (3/8) to 3mm (1/8) will take several steps, otherwise the taper is so sever, it's like a bump in the blocks.

I would go from 10mm->5mm->3mm to get a smooth transition.
