PRESS RELEASE
Hobie Multi Europeans Flensburg, 6 July 2010
The 2010 Hobie Multi Europeans will be hosted by the Luebecker Yachtclub, located in Luebeck Bay. More than 230 teams have signed up in various Hobie classes.
The largest Hobie catamaran class worldwide, well-known for its colourful sails, its one-design boats and renowned sailors like Mitch Booth will be in Travemuende from 24 July – 31 July 2010.
Along with almost all European nations, teams from Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and Oman have signed up to enter into competition with the crème de la crème of the sailing scene.
The event will be kicked off by Mitch Booth, who will offer a two-day sail training seminar. The training is sponsored by the European Hobie Cat Class Association, which allows members to attend the training session free of charge. Training will address all popular Hobie Cat classes, starting from the junior cat class, the 13-foot Hobie Dragoon to Hobie 16, Hobie 14, FX One, TIGER and the all-new Hobie WILDCAT. With more than 100 entries, the Hobie 16 will by tradition be most strongly represented.
Participants will include top-class sailors such as Mischa Heemskerk from the Netherlands, Detlef Mohr from Germany, Cederic Bader from France, Jason Waterhouse from Australia and also Mitch Booth’s son Jodie Booth, who is eager to follow in his father’s footsteps on the Dragoon. All of them excellent sailors, multiple world champions or European champions from all parts of the world, who will fight for the title in Germany. What is also fascinating to see is the revival of the Hobie 14, which are represented in considerable number thanks to the untiring commitment of a young Hamburg woman who strongly promotes the youth in the Hobie 14 and Hobie 16 class, resulting in more and more youngsters entering into the 16 class. An exciting feature will be the performance of the 18-foot Hobie WILDCAT, which will be the fastest boat in the race, reaching a top speed of some 24 knots.
Presumably, the Multi Europeans will be the world’s largest cat event in 2010. A highlight will be the so called “Sailing Arena”, taking place in the evening of Monday, 26 July and Wednesday, 28 July, where the Hobie WILDCAT and the Hobie 16 will sail short races on the Trave river to familiarize the audience with the world of Hobie sailing.
