I am trying to replace a two piece tramp with a one piece on a Hobie 16. Can't figure out how to physically thread three sides of the tramp into the rails when it has to be inserted across the front first. Is the one piece that much more difficult to install than the two piece tramp? Looks to me like the two-piece would be an easy replacement, but I can't even figure out how to put this on?

Can I just lace this in the front rather than the rear of the frame? That's only way I can think of to install the one-piece. And can't find any instructions anywhere.

archer,
I can rig a 16 in my sleep and have been professionally repairing them since '98, and I can't picture what you're talking about.

The stock tramps are 3 pieces, two halves and a rear lacing strip, all tied together with some low stretch line. The tramp on a 16 is a structural part that needs to be installed properly.

Could you post a pic of what you have?

Asking technical questions like that would get more responses here.

Happy to help, just need more info.

We sell the Sunise that has the threads leading at 45=degrees to the hulls, with single lacing at the rear. When tightening the aft, you draw all the threads tighter on the sides as well. Nice part is no hole in the middle for the sheets to go out the back.
They are called bias-cut tramps.
Perhaps that is what you have.
Rick

The side rails have a widening of the slot for tramp installation. Are these fore or aft? I beleive they come from the factory up front, but a lot of people like to switch them to the back. I think you're going to have to start wherever these slot-widenings are and lace at the other end (or take the frame apart and swap the rails).

In the early '90s, Hobie Cat sold a 1-piece (really a two piece) tramp that was a miserable failure. You couldn't get them tight enough to provide the stiffness the boat needs.

BTW, Rick, the sheets rarely go through the lacings - at least on my boat. They tend to go over the rear crossbar if you don't practice good line management.

I'm sure that was the case with a solid vinyl case but with a bias cut mesh trampoline it should tighten up the sides just fine. As long as the mesh fibers in the trampoline are running at 45 degrees, when you tighten the trampoline at the back, it also tightens the side...kinda like those chinese fingercuffs.

I read someone got a bias cut tramp for a TheMightyHobie18 from SLO and it did not work well.. he suggested the standard one and it worked fine.

I've seen at least 3 other styles of "One Piece tramps"(actually 2 pc).
Side lace, diagonal lace, front lace. The standard is the 3 pc, center lace/ aft lace, of course.

Just need to know which one homie has.
