We have setup a Compete-At website address for the 2010 Gulf Yachting Association Multihull Championship at:

https://event-manager.compete-at.com/Manager/event/home.do?eid=3064

The site currently allows online registration as well as access to the regatta NOR and SI.

This regatta was developed several years ago as a way to promote multihull sailing at all Gulf Yachting Association (GYA) member clubs. The racing includes both beach cats and PHRF multihulls. The GYA covers a geographic territory from St. Petersburg to Houston and includes Houston Yacht Club and St. Petersburg Yacht Club.

This year's championship will be held on Lake Pontchartrain with the host club being the Pontchartrain Yacht Club (PYC, www.pontyc.org). PYC has hosted several multihull championships in the past that include the 2003 A-Class North American Championship. The dates for the event are September 25-26, 2010.

There are several perpetual trophies in this event as described in the NOR that include the Smyth Perpetual Trophy for the top PHRF multihull, the Pollak trophy for the top GYA club team, the Lundquist trophy for the fastest total elapsed time in the beach cat fleet, and the Tucker trophy for the overall Portsmouth corrected time in the beach cat fleet. These trophies were donated by icons of US and Gulf Coast multihull sailing (Randy Smyth, the Pollak family, the Lundquist family, and Jim Tucker, father of Carlton Tucker).

For beach cats, we really want to attract the F-16, F-18, A-Class, and I-20 classes as these fleets seem to be the most popular on the Gulf Coast. Only four boats are required to get one design scoring and awards in addition to the overall open scoring for the perpetual trophies. The event is also open to ALL multihull sailors, GYA club membership is not required.

Please spread the word and we hope we will see a lot of boats attend. Last year, this event was hosted by Fort Walton Yacht Club and featured 17 beach cats and 7 PHRF multihulls.
