I'm trying to braid my mainsheet after splitting into two 6 strand pigtails.

Anyone have a good website for giving braiding directions for 6 strand line?

is that how you do that? I've had split tail travelers that have the core separated from the cover. The cover forms one side and the core forms the other. They're usually stitched where the join.

split the 6 strands into 2 sets of 3. braid each set of 3 and then twist the 2 together, sew/whip the end.

Alternatively don't bother making a split tail in the first place smile

Just attach the end of the line to one side and use a bit of thin dyneema to make a loop around the line to the other attachment point. Adjust the length of the loop to make the perfect pigtail without the aggravation of splitting it.

(my mainsheet is coreless, making it difficult to make a pigtail without making the line fatter by inserting a core)

Why have a coreless main? Isn't it difficult to grasp?

It is not hard to grasp....

The coreless mainsheets are sometimes easier on the hands.

However,
This may sound a little weird, but I went from a coreless mainsheet(8 or 9mm) to a mainsheet that has a core in it that is tapered. Actually, the cover is the poly and then I put in a dyneema core. So far, it seems to work better than before.

My main is a salsa line (available at Rick's shop). It's a really nice line for a main, it doesn't kink and is nice on the hands. No problem grasping it. I've tapered it by inserting a smaller dyneema line inside.

I used some Robline. then inserted Dynema into it and ran it back out. Instant pig tail.
