I pulled my Prindle out of mothballs and noticed the wooden mast support used during transportation once again fell apart. Over the years I have rebuilt this thing a dozen times. Anyone with a better idea? Any ideas much appreciated.

Coat it in epoxy and finish the end grains with a layer of fiberglass. You'll need a layer of paint on top of this because epoxy is not very UV stable. Starting with pressure treated lumber might not be a bad idea either.

It'll go a looooong time that way.

Try the plastic "wood". It cuts and fastens like wood using the same tools. I lasts a long long time. Buy some extra for those annoying things around the house you have to keep replacing.

There is a 2x6 made of recycled tires for docks and such. There is also a "plywood" made of what looks like recycled milk jugs called starboard. You can get the Starboard at West Marine and for 2x6 check lumber yards that supply material for docks.

Anouther alternative is the mast holder Hobie sells for the Wave. No moving parts and you bungee it to the rear cross beam. If it fits it's great

Jake, you really like the craftsman stuff, that's cool.

Better yet, just get a large piece of styrofoam, used to pack some item from work, or hospital. Cut it to shape using a serated kitchen knife to fit your rear crossbar, and a groove for your mast. Lash it down with any old piece of line, and for get about it! It will take you about 5 minutes to make, and it's free. That's what I've done for years!

check out jmhoying's article on thebeachcats.com

I'm going to go to a similar system when I replace my sailbox.
