I've seen things....they -are- out there. You WILL be judged.

haha, I am judged and sentenced every day here at my office!

I kinda expect to be "served" (just like the twilight zone "to serve man")

All he said, but radiation destroys odors, so drying in the sun from times to times certainly helps. Just take care not to exaggerate, especially during summer and around noon.

I have one of those Rubbermaid tubs you get from Target for storage. I'll fill it with fresh water, drop in a tablespoon of bleach stir it up and then put my gear in the to soak for a while. When done, I'll let them dry on the north side of our house constant shade. Have the same wetsuit, harness, and life jacket for the past 12 years......

Wouldn't recommend this with a drysuit!!!!

UV Radiation kills microbe's ..... chlorine kills microbes ....

So I jump fully attired in my sailing gear into the pool ... but only on sunny days.

I rinse in the pool or with a hose and then place the things that I wear in front of a fan and force dry. Never to I have odor (on the gloves, shoes, harnesses). If I hang/drip dry, they always stink, especially the shoes.

It depends on where you were sailing and what was in the water. That really mean that some of the little critters stink more and hang on better than others. I have been told that the ones that look like little shrimp, are the hardest to get out.

Most of the time soaking in soapy water and drying in open air will take care of smell. When your gear gets that dead shrimp smell especially when it gets trapped in foam, it's tough to get out, you may have to learn to live with it.

Things I have seen work at least once:

Soaking for a week in water and laundry detergent.

Soaking in your local lake for a couple of days. The theory was the lake bugs ate the death salt water bugs and now you smell like lake water. It did cut the smell

Soaking in enzymatic cleaner

Washing in PineSol. I don't know if it cleans the bugs out or if the pine smell hangs on better. It's up to you if it's better to smell like a clean bathroom or dead shrimp.

Curtains? The little critters pulled those things off the wall years ago when learning to walk...

I just tape aluminum foil on the windows. Looks sheik and keeps the alien transmissions out.

The big tub filled with boat soap works too, but maybe my sh*t don't stink as much.

Well you need to use that tub and wash the piss stains off that spinnaker!

So, why do they call you Stank? And where's your bro these days? He still in Afganaland?

Most crew could care less what they smell like. It's the driver (often downwind of said crew) who is most concerned...

And to answer your questions, Timbo...

Many moons ago, my nephew was toddling around with (then) 2nd Lt. Slaughter and I while setting up the N20. I believe the little runt went up to Ding's new 20 (to give you an idea of how long ago this was), pointed to it and said "Stank".

As for Maj. Slaughter, he's happily blowing up stuff in Trashghanistan and getting buff (I guess there's little else to do there) for his 3rd or 4th deployment (lost count). I told him to keep an eye out for those Jericho missle systems...

And yes, my next boat will (if I have anything to say about it) again have a "ur-in trouble" spinnaker
