This is an interesting story. I wish him luck. When I was young my Dad built a 54 foot cement ketch in our backyard.

Man builds 33 ton sailboat

On another note anyone know what happened to the guy that built the giant houseboat that didn't float somewhere up in the Northeast? They had a pretty good video of them putting it in the water for the first time with some problems. It was huge.

There was a show on over the weekend called Extreme Houseboats. There were some incredible boats highlighted.

"The boat is named "Faith"

This has trouble written all over it... hope i am wrong

Stories like this have run throughout our lifetimes. Some have happy endings or we never hear the endings.

When we were first sailing cats on the Space Coast in the early seventies, there was a really smart "rocket" scientist who built a big trimaran. To save money he may have cut some corners here and there.

The family (including several kids, a teenage daughter and her boyfriend) had a dream to sail around the world. They left Cocoa after a huge bon voyage party and made it to Key West.

After that, they headed for Cozumel but never made it...

No trace.

However, who would say he did the wrong thing?

Others have had epic journies following a dream.

There was a guy in High Point, NC that did something similar. He built a 36' twin mast sailboat in his back yard over 20 years. Houses were built up around him and by the time he finished he couldn't get the boat out of the yard. Tried to crane it over the house and couldn't do it or couldn't afford a crane that could. Ended up taking it apart to move it, don't know what happened after that
