I know most of you here can appreciate cool race pix, these where taken last saturday with BIG winds. This is from a long distance race of approx 25nm on a lake. It was a downwind start with 20-30kt winds, it stayed downwind all the way to the halfway point where you have to go round an island and go return to the finish line. 99 boats entered, 54 started, 31 finished, and 18(!) broken masts. I didnt go this years because it is a long drive (2,5h) and it either blows too much or too little every time I went.
Yes those are boards sticking out of the hull, he has been using them on and off for the last few years. From what I understand they become effective above a certain windrange. Crazy dangerous if you pitchpole though, slice-n-dice... ;-)
What's the black thing sticking out of the hull forward of the shroud? Another daggerboard? Some kind of foil? What is this boat anyway?
They are plates thast are designed to provide some lift; they are sailing a White Formula 20. I think it is John Dr Vrijs (Spelling??) boat and he is helming.
Think you are looking at an optical illusion caused by a sun and shadow effect. Hullis all there.
ahhh, you are correct.. it took me a minute to see the actual bow. with the shadow across it, and the hard angle of the hull, it looked like the transom of the wild cat.. i thought maybe it's the new wave blocking hull shape
