Check this out, this is a classified for the f18 World champion boat. With custom mast, custom sails, custom daggerboards and more.

€20000... At today's exchange rate that's $27240/£17170. That's a lot of money but not much of a premium compared to a regular WildCat.

Maybe on list price, but it's half again as much as a new Wildcat a friend of mine just acquired. Then again, it wasn't all tricked out with non-stock parts.

Well, if it is too much, you can always get the 2009 French Champion, a similarly tricked out Capricorn, only €14000...

I guess it's the end of season sale at Sail Innovation.

They're on to the next thing, so the lot's getting cleared. I'm surprised at the winning boat's price, too - they really spared no expense on any aspect of that boat. I listened to a conversation where they described the daggerboard construction and what they cost to make. I know that the team worries less about money than others, but it would seem they're selling for a good bit less than they have in them.

Interesting. I hadn't really thought of that before. Most of the posts after major events talk about "They won on a (Wildcat/Capricorn/insert model here)" but rarely do people mention that the boat may have been highly modified (and whether it is truly representative of performance you can expect off-the-shelf).

Or, maybe I just missed it.

Couldn't these guys have won on a stock Wildcat? I guess we'll never know.

[EDIT: I know, it's a formula rule, so it's OK. I'm just commenting on how the OD class gurus (and sometimes the factory guys) claim victory for the boat model (even if they claim that's not the agenda)...]

Custom extended daggerboards for that particular WildCat: €3500 the pair. I bought my whole F16 for less than that smile

The Capricorn for sale has been heaviliy modified as well (wildcat rudders and boards), I saw it at the Dutch nationals where it was crazy fast upwind (from what I understand they switched to the wildcat because it was faster downwind).

Their entire program was based on mixing and matching existing equipment from several manufacturers, then they went into development of their own equipment, too. It took the open formula to the limits, which is the appeal of the Class to some. It was a well-funded and organized effort. The affirmation of the Formula, however, is that they booked the best possible team they could get to sail the boat.

I know John, I just edited my prior post. It is definitely cool to see the envelopes pushed with the formula classes.

According to the classified it has Wildcat rudders and extended Diam3 daggerboards. Talk about a frankenboat smile
