Hi all,
What s the ideal weight for a Mozzie sailor? I'm 95 and consider myself a little heavy for one of these....
And can one buy a boat that is set up on a trailer, or do you have to build it all yourself?
Thanks
Chock

G'day Chocko I spend a bit of time chasing Darren on his Mozzy Bullet, I reckon it's only his unfair yardstick that lets him beat me accross the line grin Mozzys prove brains beat braun.

Hi Chock,

It just so happens that some of the lighter guys are good sailors. Doesn't mean they're fast because they're light. IMHO, 95 is a bit heavy in the light stuff but only a couple of blown tacks worth. 15knots plus, 95 is probably an advantage...Particularly if you're tall. The light blokes are starting to think about depowering... we heavy blokes keep it cranked on and lean harder grin

Yes, You can buy one ready to go.. Just launched a new foam sandwich one myself last week to replace my worn out wooden one. Most trailers seem to be home built but if it's in the budget, you could get a Mackay No Tie trailer to suit.

If you get seriously tempted, check out the victorian association web site for details on a new one http://home.vicnet.net.au/~mosquito/

You'll get lots of info and advice from here.. Just ask!

They are a great boat!

Cheers

Hi Chock,

in my time on Mossies I have gone from 95kg to 71kg, I won Nationals Cat riggged at both weights. When I was heavy I thought I was fast in strong winds 15knts plus, because I was heavy but now it looks like technique means more. Allways done ok in drifters regardless of weight, allways struggled in moderate breeze 5-12knots, even now I am 71kg, so does seem technique is more important, than weight.

But now I am light I would rather be light, it feels faster. wink

Hi Chock,
Most Cat rig sailor would fit into 80Kgs give or take 15Kgs, Sloop rig is a little different 120Kgs give or ten kgs is optimum, but they are sailed with crews up to 150kgs.
Are you planning to sail cut or sloop?
