Come one come all for some fun in the sun here at Muddy Waters. Fresh breeze and good weather guaranteed. Get one more in before putting on the ski's.

We put on a good regatta. Don't pack any food. Breakfast lunch and dinner provided. Just bring your boat. Big open lake. Top quality race committee.

State campgrounds attached to CSA or motel's right down the street (Super 8 and Microtel). We have a nice club house and heated showers on site.

Print these directions because GPS's won't get you there.

There is a good crowd already preregistered with more than 35 boats and growing. A good mix of 16, 18, 20 and a bunch of A cats.

35 boats registered, I don't know how many actually sailed.

Saturday was overcast. Rain in the morning. Probably low 60s.
Wind was 10-15 mph, but some pretty good gusts. The bigger issue was the nature of the waves. Wind was out of the North, so they had the full length of the lake to build. Evidently Carlyle is pretty shallow so the wavelength was quite short. You would power through the first wave (or fly over the top) and your bow would plow into the next right away. Especially if you didn't have any boat speed.

They got in 3 races.

Saturday exact same conditions except sun and colder. I think at most it was low 50s at race time (9 AM start). Two races.

Lots of flips. They gave an award for the most. One A Cat snapped mast. Another had his boom come apart in a pitchpole (I think). One T-bone. H16 into an TheMightyHobie18. Two holes and they had to be towed in as they filled up with water.

Because of the conditions, Andy crewed up (I kinda wanted to see him sail uni). Other than the A's and a H17, there were 4 unis. Mark (F16), Wally (F17), Bill(F17) and me (F16). I think we might have had 5 complete races between all of us.

Joe Leonard won the A Cats followed by Howard Haines. Mike Hill won the High P with Andy second. Andy did not race one race due to conditions and had a spinnaker issue in the last race, but I think it was close with the tossout. I think one point separated the A Cats.

As always, CSA put on a great regatta. Great food. Free beer. Hot showers. Propane powered heater and hot drinks on the beach. Good raffle with some nice gear on Sat. Night. Very nice A cat trophies. Nice people.

Here are the results:
Muddy Waters Results 2010

It was a windy weekend. Lot's of DNF and DNC's as a result. Not many folks managed to keep it pointy side up on Saturday myself included. One A cat went over 6 times for the record and award.

A little cooler than usual for this time of year. The food and drink was without compare. This is an old meets new design regatta where everyone gets along well on the course. The wind was 10-15 with gusts over 20 on Saturday. Then on Sunday it settled into about a 15 knot consistent wind without the huge gusts. The waves were bigger (2-3 footers) than usual and I thought made it fun.

Had a great campfire on Saturday night with some Hot Chocolate and Baileys passed around which was really yummy.

Mark your calendars for this regatta next year. Bring what you have and come on out. As you can see from the results we have classes for everyone. With 35 boats this year I bet we can get over 40 next year. We do one regatta a year and we do it right!!

Just for the record....The A-cat that flipped 6 times was a 19 year old (accomplished Lightning sailor) sailing his first A-cat regatta. It was my son, Caleb and I was quite proud of the fact that he kept right on going and in fact was out when others were heading for the harbor.....kids like him are the future of our class / sport!
