Can anyone recommend good spots for beach launch around the Chesapeake Bay?

Preferred features:
- day sail of 14'~20' catamaran pulled by trailer
- close enough to use cat trax (assume driving on beach is NOT OK)
- locals not interested in hassling sailors

Sandy Point State Park just a little north of Annapolis.

Hi,

The Chesapeake bay is a big, looong, body of water, where approximently are you looking to launch from ??? Since you are from Virginia you could mean the Annapolis area or Virginia Beach ... and there's approximently 150 miles in-between.

And between my friends and I .... we know most of the launches .... so talk to us, and we'll point you in the right direction.

PS: The beach sand on the northen bay is big granules that does not pack together and therefore EATS 4X4's up to their axles .... unlike the sand at Virginia beach that is fine granules that pack nicely and allows 4X4's to travel on the beaches easily .....

I'm in central VA now, but open to suggestions.

This will be your best shot. Fishing Bay YC should also work for you.

Gloucester Point (just north of Yorktown on 17) has a ramp and a beach. Tide rips through there, though, not the best place in light air.

A job in Hampton Roads area would probably inspire me to live aboard my Catalina 30. Maintaining a boat AND house is a pain!
