RICK,

On a last post someone recommended "catamaran sailing for the 90's" as a good resource book for beginner to experienced sailors. You answered that you were the author of Catamaran Racing for the 90's. I am a VERY beginner sailor (only two wks experience) and am looking for a good book to teach me the basics as well as more experienced info as i get better. Can you recommend a good book? I didn't realize that you were THE Rick White, author of all those sailing books in the Hobie catalog. We are lucky to have you here in south Florida (we live in Hollywood FL). And look forward to coming down to Key Largo to visit you one of these days.

And you ought to join CABB (Catamaran Assn. of Biscayne Bay) that has monthly events, both fun and racing. And the racing is also fun as it is very low key.
John McKnight is the Commodore and contact person. Email is JMcKnight76@aol.com

There is a race coming up on Sunday at Hobie Beach in Miami. It is on Rickenbacker Causeway just after the bridge going over the Intracoastal Waterway. I'll be there having fun.

In our Online Marine Store there are two books that might serve your purpose. They are:
1) Sailor's Start-Up: A Beginners Guide to Sailing
2) Catamran Sailing From Start to Finish

Right off hand, I cannot think of any other particular titles, but I am sure a good search in Amazon.com would bring some results.
As for books, You might be better served to get a book on basic monohull sailing.., you don't really a specific book for cats on getting the basics down.
Good luck,
Rick

There is a book called "Start Sailing Right" put out by the Red Cross. It is what we use to teach sailing. It is a very basic book for beginners.

I concur... Catamaran Sailing From Start To Finish by Phil Berman is a wonderful book for those just starting out.

Depending on how you learn...you may also want to pick up Total Boat Handling, which is a video that will show you how to handle your boat with video, diagrams, and narration from THE AUTHOR himself, Rick White.

Check it out at the store!

Cheers!
