What does this imply for the future direction of the F16 class? What is the long term strategy behind this move?

What will now happen with the GCs?

I'll not be ready for Bordeaux. I wish I would be..

You are correct Gill. The problem that we had as a non recognised class was that had we held a National or World Championship, any sailor competing could, in theory, have been banned by ISAF from competing in any ISAF sanctioned event in any class. This meant that we could only hold such events if we did not use any of the 'trademarked' ISAF terms.

The long term future of the class is now much more secure both for the boat builders and the boat owners. By now being able to hold National, Continental and World Championships we are now being taken much more seriously by other classes, clubs, National Authorities and the media. In effect, we've grown up!

Not that I am negative to this change, but I like facts and long term plans.

This means the F16 class is now an ISAF recognized class with everything that status contains. That is rather a lot.

The rest you present her John is not of consequence and a far cry from a strategy or long term plan. I liked the sound of "GC" a lot better than a Worlds.

Why? In both cases you sail around the cans for a week and in the end you have a winner, but with a nicer title on the mug right?

I was hoping for "Intergalactic Battle of the F16s" and a long term plan of total interstellar domination! wink

ISAF recognition is just a starting point.

not 100% true.. a "national title" is held under the NA.. In Aust means a specified number of boats from a specified number of state authorities or localities. I cant remember the number of state bodies or number of boats from each body.. But fairly sure it is at least 3 states/authorities with at least one representative at the title, but could be more.... I believe this was achieved last Aussie wrangling or was very close.

When that "requirement" is achieved the class can be eligible to apply to hold a "nationals" if the procedures are followed.. How holding a "nationals" without the NA's approval will involve ISAF's ban clause.. I suspect this will still be the case if the NA still doesn't believe the ISAF "recognized" class is of "NA standard"..

"Worlds" / "international" is as you stated ISAF controlled....

However the "worlds" status means the NA may help sponsor a "team" to the "worlds".. "National" status means, in Aust at least, the state bodies may help in funding "their" team if there is a local fleet..

Bad news is Macca may get his Nacra super F16 super carbon Viper killer sooner.. *chuckles* (joke ppl)

Currently he is still mucking about with his Maricat and that will never be a viable F16. Some guys are always on the wrong side of the stick.

I wouldn't joke about it too much. I bet it's being fast tracked now to try and make Olympic equipment. Maybe there will be some at the f16 worlds.

I've always thought the name "Global Challenge" got the message across without us appearing to be a bunch of sheep.

Everyone knows it's a world championship.

Up to now we have been encouraged to use a classier name for it. Once ISAF has recognised the class the encouragement is no longer there.
ISAF recognition is a big step forward changing the name of the Global Challenge in my view is not.

No doubt others will see this differently.

This is just the way I see it.

The curved boards which Macca deems essential on a modern design, will take it outside of class rules. smile

What does a "Mericat F16" weigh, if one actually exists?

the 4.3 maricat hulls rudders and stocks is around 95Kg.. add the rig...
The Maricat 5.0 is not a Hobie take off but had/has? plate and rudders was around 90k.. You would have to add rig.. No

Then there was a Maricat 4.0 which weighed more than the 4.3t many of these were made and I guess less survive..

All were gelcoated glass polyester construction.. Which is the same construction of a new Nacra F18 !! (winks) Joke people....
