Hi guys, just saw a vid of some spitfires on the fp of sailing anarchy... Are Spitfires F16s? Looking at the class specs they seem to be very similar to Vipers (if not a bit heavier)... Just wondering if they are F16s and how they compare to Vipers, Blades, etc.

Lastly, do they exist outside of the UK?

Just look like a cool boat.

They are on the "grandfather" list I think.

No they are not an F16. Too much sail amoungst a couple of other minor differences.

There is no such thing as "grandfathered" anymore. It measures or it does not. If you wish to race head to head in a local event they are relatively close though and in good hands pretty fast.

Personally I find them more difficult to sail then F16's. Especially then the newer ones as the Falcon or Viper.
Outside the UK you find some in Bretagne, France, otherwise they are not that wide spread.

Not completly thru, the Spitfire is not grantfathered anumore , so no F16, but the Stealth R and Taipan 4.9 ( with F16 spi )are still in the F16 class grantfathered, actually they are the foundation boats.

Hans

I know there was a vote specifically to address the Stealth R’s minor deviation to allow it at the Euros last year. The 4.9 as long as it is rigged uni or modified to have an F16 compliant full sail plan fits within the rules box. Are you saying that a stock 4.9 with the big jib is fully F16 then because of the “grandfather”?
I was under the assumption , and especially with ISAF, blanket exceptions were no longer allowed. Although for non championship level events bring them all.

If I recall the spitfire class did not accept the F16 offer of "grandfathering".. what I cant recall is why the "Cobra" wasn't a "foundation" class along with the Ts and Mozzies..
