So, what's your downwind style?

Downwind I always try to be max forward.
On the Blade it means working a lot to adapt to the conditions every second, with the added volume and new Falcon hullshape it's a steady ride all the way. I even noticed the biggest advantage of the Falcon vs Blade in the downwind at lower windspeeds. We go and sit mid tramp and it makes a hell of a difference.

I try to move forward until the boat goes quiet. If I'm too far back there is a lot of noise from water being displaced by the sterns. I also move inboard until, in light air, I'm sitting next to the mast. I'm actually pleased with my downwind performance. Going to weather remains a mystery...

Gilo, the Blade you are referring to....is it the Vectorworks Blade or the Aussi Blade? It gets a bit confusing...
When referring to the "Blade" maybe you could use Blade(US) or Blade(Aus) since the two are considerably different and could have a substanial effect the technique you are describing.

Vectorworks Blade. (added a picture).

I try to sail the bow down half down in light to medium. When there are waves or gusty weather I sail the bow a bit out of the water. Moving inwards makes a lot of difference indeed to go deeper. However at a certain point it is better to go high and for speed instaed of going deep, you just need to find that point.... :-)

At the just past Tradewinds regatta, there were a couple races where we had pretty good wind going downhill, and I found on my US Blade, it was much faster to stay flatter, saling on two hulls and keep the bows up, not for risk of picthpole, wich is always a factor on the US Blades, but for speed.

To keep the front beam from stuffing into the wave tops as we went up and over them it was easier on two hulls. If you go high on one hull, that hull will be deeper in the water, obviously, and the front beam will dig in and really slow you down with each wave top as you climb up over.

We kept it on two hulls, usually, and kept the bows up. It was much faster than constantly stuffing the beam into the wave when on one hull.

All of the other F16 designs (except the Taipan 4.9)have more volume in the bows, so they are more apt to do better on one hull.

Here you can see what extra volume does: no risk! :-)

From 00:32 is downwind. Whole movie is on the North Sea, were we handle quite some waves.
