Preferably used and in good working condition.

Where is the best spot to find at reasonable price? Needed for casual day sailing (not race-caliber).

call kirk at key sailing in pensacola. keysailing.com He usually has some used stuff laying around. Doesn't have to be for a nacra 5.2 specifically. They are all the same (purchase sometimes different though).

Thanks for the tip - I think it calls for a 6:1 with a 7/16" line.

I see the H16 uses a 6:1 with 3/8" line - would that be sufficient? I figure there would be a lot of those around.

Yep, a H16 system will work just fine for you.

As long as it's made up of two contained double blocks. Some older Hobie 16's have multiple sheaves on the boom to create the purchase and that won't work on the 5.2

6:1 may not be enough. I know from experience I need 7:1 to not damage my tendons... I'm an old fart though at 40, I guess.. If you're more of a "manly man" then why not.

Lol, mine is a 5:1 on the 5.2. You're a wuss smile

The 5.2 is a nice boat, but noboby wants to buy mine. I'm going to end up putting it on ebay for 1£...

You are right, mine was 5:1 also, not 6:1.

About the wuss thing... If you lived around here I'd love to race you over that! Maybe race each other to the middle of the English channel, the one who gets there first gets a ride back ;-) (Only when the wind is from the east, purely in the interests of safety ;-)

Perhaps your main is less baggy. Mine takes all the strength I've got or I lose any pointing ability it has left.

my 1982 5.2 would have come with a 5:1 system, that being a double block on the boom and a double block just above the the ratchet block on the traveller

previous owner replaced the double on the boom with a triple and put a loop of sheet to tie-off on to the lower block to make it 6:1

i found that hard work and moved the triple on the boom down to replace the old double on the traveller and put an old triple with becket on the boom so now it's 7:1

so you've got a variety of options if you choose to modify an old/cheap 5:1 set

you could also add another hanger to the boom, the 5.2 originally came with 2, and use that to double? up an older 5:1 system. attached is a pic of my current system, a pic of a double hanger system and the oem 5.2 double hanger in 1975
