G'day we had a successful Earthmovers race on Saturday where 17 cats raced a 3 lap buoy course of 21.5km per lap giving us 64.5km as the crow flies and a bit over 70km of sailing. I'm doing a write up for it and would like to know where that sits regarding distance races completed in Australia this season.

The only race that I know of that is suposed to be slightly longer is the Great Race from Gold Coast to Brisbane. 37 nm or 68 km as the crow flies. Pretty similar length. But the last few ks is usually the killer.

Won overall for the last 2 years by a 14 ft arrow cat.

This race has been completed by a few mad bastards in lasers as well.

We are fairly soft compared to our American friends.

what about The Milang-to-Goolwa Freshwater Classic? it is 90nm. Would this qualify?

Goolwa Meningie is the long race, thats the dream race, we have 3 boats at our club that will do it tomorrow. We did the last Goolwa Milang and I'm a member of Milang but unfortunately it's not on this year. Trouble with those race's is when they run it everyone makes money but the sailing clubs so they can't get the energy to run it. The SES wanted $5000 just to man a rescue boat, all the hotels got booked out but don't tip money in. The liability insurance has made it hard, how do you get insurance to have cats finish in the dark crossing the 160 square km lake at the end.
