I own a beautiful G-Cat 5.7 and think it's a great boat. On the web, I read that Hans Giessler might have made a 21' version of this boat. Is this true? Has anyone seen one?

Yes - I had the pleasure of racing on one at Myrtle Beach in 2002 or so. Nice boat. Great speed in a straight line but suffered a little while tacking due to the depth of the hulls in the water.

Hans told me last week he is thinking about going back into production (again).

He is deffinatly one of my heros. He is now in his 70's and sails about every weekend with us. He is typically the first one to the target and damn near impossilble to beat in a race.

There were 2 versions of the 21, one with an 8.5 beam, and the (I think) Grand Prix version with a 10 ft beam. I had the 8.5 beam, this is the one Jake and Sailed in 2002. Heres the skinny:
I loved the 5.o and the 5.7, so I thought it natural to het the 6.0 or 6.1 whatever it was as it should be a monster.
I found it to be WAY overpowered even in light air, although a new sailplan would better stabilize it as the jib was like a 135 genny, way, way, too big for upwind sailing. It had the same mast as the NACRA 6.0 and an older version of a Sq top with kinda a rounded top that extened over the top of the mast. Way too much sail area again unless you are sailing with 3 people.
The boat was very fast slightly off wind and downwind(not too many spins in those days), but in big seas we couldnt tack the boat, as Jake said it had way too much depth in the hulls, they were almost waist high standing beside the boat on shore.
Overall a new sailplan would have helped, but unless you are on a lake with no waves, tacking is an issue.
And BTW, Hans is a hero, he had a lot to do with the boats we sail today, same as (dont throw rocks at me) Bill Roberts. These 2 guys were the Melvin and Morelli's of their day, and both still have great ideas, and both are accomplished cat sailors.
Hans goes a step further with his humanitariaism with his Morningstar Fisherman mission. He goes into 3rd world countries and sets up fish farms so locals can eat, and teaches them to sustain it so there is a protein source for generations to come.

Hans will be racing a GCat 5.7 in the Fourth of July Regatta (on July 3d) at the Dunedin Causeway. Come by and sail in the same postcard we sail 365 days a year. Why wait until your retired to discover that cold water is not good? laugh

Hans had that grey 5.0 out on Saturday but told me he would NOT be racing it. I just assumed he would be back on his regular 5.7. He's always got another GCat up his sleeve. I guess we'll just have to be there to find out.

Jake is right, single diamond wires, and I never weighed the boat, but I would say around 400 pounds, maybe a lttle less.
Hans has a carbon 5.0 that he has sailed, I think it did not quite meet some form of the F16 rule, and according to the F16 forum it did not perform as well with the hull design. I would still like to have a carbon 5.0, its a good boat.

I'm finishing one of the new 5.0's now. I think the boat is great for recreational sailing and still damm fast.

By the way, the Worrell boat was 12ft wide.
