Are these blocks strong enough to work a 16:1 downhaul on my 5.5? I don't really know the force required, nor do I have a way to test it.

Hopeing someone else can give me input.

I was going with cascading 16:1
(I have cheeks on the main, one each side. One cheek in the mast track) Start the line on the end of a double 29mm, run it up to the cheek in the main, down to the cheek in the track, back up to the other side of the main, then down to the other 29mm

Get 2 H341 (single with becket), start the line at becket, up to 29, down through single, back up to 29, then down to swiveling cam cleat. Do the same on the other side.

Will this give me 16:1?
Is this overkill?
Do I need a beer?
Has this post made you crazy yet?

Only downside I can see is having to tie part of the line off to a 29mm each time I go. I suppose if I bitch about that I'm just lazy

Ahh yes, 3/16" or 1/4" line?
Should I get 5/16 and strip the cover off to run through the blocks?

Has anyone ever run a system out to the end of the crossbeam?

THANKS!

Most folks use the harken 16 mm air blocks for downhauls. Hell, some tornado's use this block for the spin halyard block at the top of the mast.

IMO, the 29 mm are gross overkill and are quite large in your application.
