Quite a rain storm engulfed the back half of the fleet. No serious wind squalls or lightning (that I heard of), but it looked like a very unfriendly place to be sailing. I also heard that two boats dismasted. I did not get the stories on those either.

I suspect some of the DNF's were folks that preregistered but didn't show up, they are ghost boats.

There were a few break downs.

Conditions were almost perfect. We had a small uneventful storm move through the course, nothing to get excited about. It did leave some without wind longer than others and those that chose poorly paid dearly.

The conditions were a bit of everything. I'd say it was blowing 10 at the start with a slight 2' chop. It built, to the best of my estimate to just shy of 15 I'd wager. Then the storm rolled in. Depending on what side of the storm you were on, you'd either get swirling 0 or a big lefty that would let you (if your name was Frank) point straight at the mark.

The trip home was simply awesome. I can't remember a better time sailing than that leg home.

Everyone listed started.

It was a bit choppy heading up wind and the storm formed right about the time a lot of the slower boats were back to the start, so it was a nice time to bail.

I think, Pete H had a bridal break, George lost a jib halyard and made the news getting "rescued" and Vern lost a trap wire, flipped, turtled and then sunk.

Not a great day for H16s in finish.

Once the storm passed and we limped around the bell buoy, the sun came out and the wind came back for an epic spin run down the beach - well worth the price of adimission.

Thanks to Carons (and Murfs) for another great party and some excellent eats
