What's the difference between new and old style rudders? Mine's a 2002, and I'm pretty sure everything is original. Thanks!

Dave

Size , and makes a difference smile

as stock has smaller hole.

wings at front of blade and blade cut out out bottom bevelled towards wings , smaller wings tooo .

original blade was copy of 49er rudder with wings fitted at back on the bottom

hoped scooby would have chipped in if he still had some for sale

Thanks guys, I love the boat, and it's amazingly controllable in the big stuff, but I do feel these 1st gen rudders slow the boat down some. Any idea of the cost/availability of the newer ones from John? Will they fit my alum casettes?

Dave

Hi All,

I don't know if John still producing Stealth rudders ??
I have T foils rudders and also Dotan rudders which are fitting well on my Stealth #539. Then I experienced that T foils are really efficient to prevent diving.

My problem is that the boat is "singing" "whouwhou..." because of vibrations in the rudders. Do you know what can I do to stop them ?
Thanks
Bertrand

Couple of possible problems....

1, How Snug is the rudder in the casette? Maybe the carpet padding has worn
2, Are the rudders fully forward in the casettes? I have put a small blob of filler at the back (with the rudder down and protected with silicone paper) to make sure the blade is fully forward
3, Make sure the mounting fittings on the back of the boat are done up snug (but do not go mad they are threaded into acetal wich is not mega strong
4, Do you have any dinks or nicks in the leading or trailing edges? fix them.

Good places to start..
