Say the same boat has the same height of mast but one is carbon and the other aluminum. If the sailmaker truly designs one sail to match each mast, how much of a problem would it be to switch the sails?
Guess the question revolves around the extent of the difference of bending characteristics between the two materials and whether the sailmaker actually designs a different sail based on the material of the mast (I actually doubt that this is the case).

Good sailmaker will ask you for pre/bend and bending characteristics, not material. Other point to check is track width, some A-Cat carbon mast have a wide track for plastic tube with increased diameter instead of a rope.

Cheers,

Klaus

If you’re talking about the nacra 20 masts. I sail the alum wing we just did sum sail measurements including the mast and the total was just over 48Sq meters this is using the ISAF F16 Rule for sail measurements. The carbon rig and sails were just over 49sq meters.
