See email posted below: Does anybody know of this guy?...it looks like another scam, but with a swedish twist. The guy misspelled his name at the end or is Deve the swedish version of Dave? Has any other classified ad users gotten this email? I googled his name and his name plus sailing and came up with zero.

Thanks for any light you can shine on this.

Jim Stone

I saw your advert {http://www.catsailor.com/cs_classifieds.html}and i am interested in buying your {- 2001 Inter 17R }. I want you to tell me the actual price you want to sell it.i will like to know more about the present condition of it,i want you to forward the picture to my e-mail address.if you have have the pic in your e-mail box, you can send it to my home address below..

I don't want you to worry about the shipment of it,i have a shipping company that will help me out for the shiping of it,my shipping company will take care of the shipment.
Most important,i need your full address including your phone number so that the check can get to you,i also need your full name that will appear on the check.

I vote scam. Sounds like the same ploy. No quibble about price, pays by (counterfeit)certified check, and no worries about shipping. Ignore it.

the brackets around the {"variables"} such as the web address and the type of boat indicate a poorly written mass mailing program that pulls information from a user constructed database where this info is listed....scam. definitely.

Yeah Jim, that sounds like a scam.

I am very interested in setting up some kind of sting operation for these f*ckers. Tracing email isn't impossible, especially when you're the mail server administrator.

Definitely a scam artist. These guys are hard to catch because they typically use untracable email like Yahoo and then set up in internet cafe's. So there is no real way to catch these people. The poorly written English is the biggest clue other than them being out of the USA.

Thanks for the insight guys. Really appreciate it. I have not responded and plan not to. Don't really need to sell the I-17R anyway...just have too many boats!

All the best,

Jim Stone

Mike: Everything is traceable... its just how far you're willing to dig to get to the piece of sh*t that keeps most people from trying.

Even if they sign up with a free yahoo or msn account, they keep records of where they signed up from. Typically from an anonymizer proxy. Thing is those proxies are meant for people in countries like Iran and China to get to sites that would normally be blocked by their governments, and NOT for spammers. So when you emailed the anonymizer people, they just might give you the non-anonymized IP address, which you can take to the appropriate ISP.

Since I'm from Sweden I got a bit curios about the adress. It is a company not a person. The company works with recycling of materials, packaging materials mostly. You can send an email to the company if you want to dig further, info@repa.se
