I took a stab at it and "I think" that Greg/John may have taken a 3rd place today.

What a piss hole. The water looks all blue and stuff. Give me green sludgy lake water with 1.5" of clarity any day.....

I'm boatless.

John Williams report on Facebook:
Exciting day on the water. First race, we set up for a port start, even though the line was starboard; we wanted to get right badly. With less than a minute to go, VEN decides to join us. PUR won the boat and tacked immediately, making us the meat in a Latin sandwich. Long trip to the right, and we got squeezed and then spat out the back. But we made some gains downwind and had a killer second bea...t to finish 3rd behind VEN and GUA. Next race, MORE excitement as the seabreeze arrived, and we went from no trap to solid double, spray flying in the space of about 30 seconds. Clocked so hard, though, we were abandoned. Next start found us getting pinched off by CAN. We tacked away for air, but were crestfallen to see the left side hit the breeze first! They were all hooked up and cruising while we slogged along with the half of the fleet that bet on the right side. We seemed to be getting our stride again, but a fatal error at the A pin found us capsized. DFL for USA. :-( We'll be back at them tomorrow; the throwout will come in and we are shaking off the error as I type this. The encouraging posts and emails mean the world to us. Thanks, and keep the flag flying!

Looks like they're doing some respectable racing when they're not shmoozing at the resort.

Wednesday - John Williams report on Facebook:

We put up two 3s in very light conditions. Kept our head together as things came apart for those around us. Really good tactics to keep the fleet behind. Grueling heat. Sweat is sheeting off everyone here. With no breeze, it's oppressive, and the water is in the high 80s. We go into the lay day having erased our mistake from yesterday and with some shakeup in the fleet. More after scores are posted.

Brazil dominated sailing in the Pan American games with five gold medals (J24, Snipe, Windsurf Men, Windsurf Women and Sunfish), one silver medal (Hobie 16) and one bronze medal (Lightning). Without Scheidt and Grael.

Argentina followed with two gold medals (Laser Men and Laser Radial Women) a silver and a bronze; Chile was third with one gold medal (Lightning) a silver and a bronze and Puerto Rico was fourth with a single gold medal (Hobie 16).

A few details: ISAF's website fails to notice that anything happened. A rise in political bullsh*t from ISAF against Brazil is the obvious thing to expect. Remember: you read it here first.

The metal tally in sailing was:
