Hey guys Charlie Trinque here. A friend and I are designing 2 prototype catamarans a new f16 and also a new f20open. I was wondering who people are using to make mast sections and beams? Alum mast and beams for the 16 and carbon mast and beams for the 20. I might make the carbon beams myself but will not attempt the mast lol.

We are going with old Tornado equipment we have picked up as spares over the years or bought at scrap metal cost.

For beams, buying 6061T6 alu sections is a possible solution.
For masts wing sections are available as spares from manufacturers if you ask around.

It all depends on your budget and objectives.

In that case , falcon marine is your best port of call.

They have the AHPC superwing alu mast which is excellent en the only viable alu option for the F16's as the other wingsections are all geared towards the F18's a a few kg heavier as well as too stiff.

Falcon marine also uses custum designed alu beams originalky designed by Phill Brander, Marcus Towell and myself. These strike the best balance between stiffness, weight and ease of incorporating them in the overall design.

I would at least use these for the mainbeam as you may get away with a lighter rearbeam, but the gains will be limited as the beams best work in tandem to provide for ample platform stiffness.

I hope this helps.
