Seems to be a lot of confusion about the MHC... Here is one opinion. Add your point of view

The purpose on the Council includes:

1. To promote and support the interests of those who sail multihulls.

IMO, The MHC should address issues that transcend One design classes and Open class racing.... Eg Junior Sailing, Junior olympic development, growing the sport. clinics etc. Women in sailing, Disabled sailing, International ISAF competitions.

Beach Access, Taxation, PFD regulations that effect recreational sailors.

2. To provide a forum for those who sail multihulls, as well as manufacturers of multihull boats, spars and sails, to discuss matters of interest and exchange information.

Regularly scheduled public meetings that keep focus on the issues that need attention.

3. To advise and coordinate with US SAILING's committees, councils, directors and staff in matters which affect member organizations.

For example, Recommendations about Safety for coastal beach cat racing are made to the safety as sea committee.

Issues about handicap ratings are forwarded to the Handicap committee.

4. To help develop and maintain handicap rating systems for multihulls.

Beach Cats use SCHRS, Texel and various Portsmouth yardsticks.
Big Multi's use a mix of measurement and performance handicap systems. The MHC should organize the sailors and their OD fleets to focus on issues with handicap system and work with classes as necessary to have fair, accurate handicap systems with transparency and integrity.

5. To recommend to US SAILING's Board of Directors the establishment of national championship events and qualifying criteria.

Obviously, the topic of the day...is what is the future of the USSA championship. A poll has just concluded and the MHC will form an opinion and inform A SEPARATE championship committee.

6. To formulate and promulgate safety programs for multihulls.

Safety guidelines for coastal distance racing for OA's to use in running races for beach cats are in the works.

Best Safety Practices for junior sailing should be an issue. Junior dinghy sailing suffered a fatal tragedy and USSA and RSA, YC and Junior programs have moved to implement on the water safety training for all of the junior racers. The MHC should get all of the information that classes have put together and make it available.

7. To establish and promote sailing and race training programs which, in part, introduce and expose US SAILING members, prospective US SAILING members and youth to multihull sailing and/or multihull racing.

The MHC can (could)bring additional resources and focus to OD class efforts.

Youth training, outreach, etc transcends many one design classes.
