Wow... I was completely wrong!

I used to say that NAMSA had absolutely no impact on the cat sailing world...

I never knew that you got a slick membership card!

Good Job NAMSA!

Still exists, armed and ready when ever, or if ever, needed.
Knew Dick well.

My thought was that USS can't very well represent cat sailors if they don't know who they are. Belonging or not belonging to one group shouldn't preclude belonging to the other. So, I was thinking of putting NAMSA forward as a registry of cat sailors who don't necessarily want to belong to USS (or any other group for that matter).

I have heard the name. Was he the NAMSA shotgun rider in the North during the late seventies and early eighties? Dick was running our posse down South along the Gulf Coast.

Herb had one of the first catamaran rating formulas that combined performance data and his proprietary VPP model. The country used NAMSA ratings for handicap. It was frustrating to use because he continually was improving the model and fit... so you could almost get a new rating monthly...
He fell into the trap of well... THIS version is more accurate so you should use the latest and greatest NAMSA table. Clubs got sucked into this briar patch and eventually decided to just use the spring NAMSA version.

US Sailing decided to really push the use of the USPN ratings and with this national recognition... the beach cat world switched over to USPN within a year or two. I think Darline had just taken over the PN job and she championed cats, cat sailing and the PN yardstick.

John, You've been away too long my friend. Mark converted to Coors light several years ago.
