Hi everyone, my girlfriends got a mozzie that we've been restoring over the past year, sail no 1680. We intend to take it to bullen merri this weekend to race the 2 other juniors sailing mozzies from geelong. I normally sail an a class and I've never been on a mozzie, much less raced one. So I was wondering if anyone has some basic rake numbers, diamond tension etc we can use as some basic numbers so we hopefully don't get destroyed too badly...our main is not too bad but the jibs from some saikmaker in cheltenham that I assume shut long ago, and is more of a jib shaped piece of cloth.

Hi,

Mast rotation start off at 45 degrees
Spreaders if have adjustable the rake of spreaders about 25 mm forward from the mast track if sloop, if cat rigged, about 10 mm, if no ajustable = cant change.
Diamond tensions sloop about 25 (light Crew weight) to 30 (Heavy Weight)on tension gauge depends on how heavy crew weight is
cat rigged between 18(light Sailor)and 26 (Heavy Sailor)
Not sure on rake as it all depends on how it sails, too much rake causes weather helm, too much forward could send nose in or uncontrolling steering try happy medium.
downhaul= all depends on the main, but rule of thumb, if cant handle it, pull more on
outhaul = 4 fingers from middle of boom to sail of for starters, more power let it off,

hope this will start u

Matt

Thanks, I'm pretty sure the spreaders are fixed so ill just have to deal with that. We're very heavy at 145kgs or so, so I'll go for 30 on the diamonds. Downwind do you guys sail more of a wild thing strategy but with both hulls in the water, (sails cranked on, boat going fast, hull nearly flying, like an A class) or do you generally just hobie it and let the sails out and cruise just sailing high enough to keep going and gybing in the puffs?

Thanks, Tom
