Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone races mozzies sloop rigged with a kite with much sucess? Or are they a bit small up front to sail like an f18 downwind? The other geelong boat has a kite and it looks heaps better, and I already have a pole I could use so I thought it would be worth considering, and it'd make downwind a heap more fun.
Thanks, Tom

Hi Tom,

A couple of us sail sloops with kites in SA.

After years sailing A's I came back to the mossie partly because of the kite and on a Mk2 it is a world of fun particilar off the wind, it becomes a totally different boat.

Still not brave enought to sail off the wind with 2 on the wire but my youngest son does ... interestly fast.

Absolutely go with a Kite - I sail sloop with kite and it certainly changes the boat off the wind. There are a couple of us in Vic.

Both the crew and I are around the 5'9" (old money) mark and fit OK will working the sheets. There is a crap load of ropes criss crossing each other in a small area so make sure they are all different colours!

Only tried all out on the wire once and I binned it (The Sugarloaf gusts got us).

Love it!
