Yes, I know the ocean is about an hour away from Winter Park, but is there any good sailing on Lake Apopka or any of the other local lakes?

If my wife gets the job at Full Sail, I will be moving.

daniel - I live 2 minute away from winter park over in college park.

There is lake Eustis that hosts the wildcat regatta, and tons of regattas over on the Indian river/Banana River. I keep the 20 on the trailer and mostly do regattas that I can drive to and come home at the end of the day, which fortunately is quite a few.

The drive to New Smyrna is about an hour and you can drive and launch right on the beach there.

Is there mast up storage at Lake Eustis, or somewhere near the beach? I'm spoiled. :-)

I'm pretty sure thats a "Yes" at Eustis and I think you can keep your boat on the beach given certain pre-requisites in certain areas of Volousia county. We go on picnics/surf fishing trips up in Flagler and there are hobies spotting the beach up there - although I would never leave my boat on the beach.

Daniel,
You can also sail Lake Harris. There is a grassy park on the south side of the boat ramp lagoon that is city owned. The Parks and Rec Director Eric Dickerson, has granted permission to launch the boats there. Straight access to the bigger lake. I wouldn't leave it after dark as the park closes at 10:00 and don't think they would go for that.
