The St. Francis Yacht Club, which I think can fairly be decsribed as the Bay Area's most self-consciously exclusive yacht club, has just added a catamaran division to its marquee annual regatta, the four-day, Rolex-sponsored Big Boat Series in September. From yesterday's press release:

In addition to the new HPR class, Rolex Big Boat Series organizers will also be inviting high performance catamarans to compete in 2012. “With the excitement being generated by the 34th Americas Cup and the Americas Cup World Series currently underway, we thought this would also be the perfect opportunity to invite a serious high performance catamaran class for the Rolex Big Boat Series.” says Peter Stoneberg, Commodore of St. Francis Yacht Club. “There are currently several Prosail 40 catamarans as well as an SL-33 and an Extreme 40 sailing on San Francisco Bay, and we hope to attract all of these boats as well as more boats from outside of the Bay Area,” Stoneberg continued.

Interesting times.
