I'm a little perplexed about when or why someone needs to adjust the spin tack? I realize that letting the tack in/out a little will change the sail shape some, but are there any conditions that require a need for the tack to be adjusted or let out from the pole? And how does this adjustment effect the performance and handling of the boat?

You always try to keep the power as low on the rig as you can.

So, you would never blow the tack to change the sailshape because it would move the power up. Rather, you ease the head a bit to control the luff tension and break of your chute. In addition, you open the slot at the top of the sail a bit if you ease it a little.

In order to sail the chute as high as possible, the luff needs to be as tight as reasonable to flatten the sail...conversly to sail low(er) loosen the luff to round out and make the sail fuller. On a standard course, there's very little need to adjust the luff because you are usually sailing the same angles.

Wrong again...seems to be a reoccuring theme with me lately!

Someone was gracious enough to correct me via email and I had it backwards. According to Mark, to get the spinnaker to point higher, loosen the luff (which moves the draft back)...conversly tighten the luff to move the draft forward and sail deeper.

So, in short, the tack should always be tight to the pole? and if there needs to be any ajustments, it should be done at the head? or should both the head and tack be let out equally.
