Ok, so I've got a new 8:1 mainsheet system
I need to figure out how to taper this stuff, as I went with 3/8's line, and with the cover on it's rubbing against each other. I need to taper to the core, and then splice the core around the lower block becket.

Looking, but I don't find anything online.

Samson Rope Splicing Page

In there you want the file for a type 2 as follows:

Stripping Cover from Core-Dependent Class 2 Double Braids

I just used these instructions last night while watching the Falcons get clobbered by the Rams . At least it gave me something to be proud about for the evening.

The core of that warpspeed (looking at the picture on the web) looks like a 12 strand Class 2 on the Samson website. You just might be able to pull that off (that would be cool!). Try the eye-splice for the Class 2 12-strand rope. I did a couple of those last night as well on some 1/8" Amsteel Blue and they came out really cool...Although, I had to make a splicing needle to use in place of a fid because of the small diameter.

Samson's site has specific instructions for eye splices in the core of stripped class 2 ropes, which are almost exactly the same as for 12 braid class 2 ropes but for one detail: Warpspeed's core is 8 braid, not 12 braid.

However, the only difference is in the procedure for cutting some strands for tappering the bitter end before buriyng - not really complicated to figure out alone, if necessary.

Cheers,
Luiz

After being completly confused, a call to sampson cleared it up

It's a 24 strand double braid according to them.

Use the destructions for class 2 double braid. Don't let the core be exposed to UV for extended (read days) periods of time. Who leaves there mainsheet blocks on their boat???!?!?

The section

Class 2 double braids.

Has 3 DL's, one of which is eye splicing core only, other one is tapering and stripping the core, third ???

BTW, could you tell me about the sheet you stripped and tapered? is it stiffer in anyway where you put the cover back into the core? I don't want to ruin 200$ worth of mainsheet by making the taper so stiff that it won't run through the blocks

I just did a test piece with a short new piece of 1/4" that wasn't made to strip the core from (the core was a bit fuzzy) - I can't really be of any help there.

Guys,

I have the old color scheme Warpspeed (blue core) and spliced it myself. It is a double braid and the core is 8 strand.

The splicing instructions (I agree they can be "destructions" depending on your patience) can be downloaded from here. Choose one of the three "Class 2 Double Braid" instructions.

In my opinion Dyneema (the core) is VERY easy to work with. Just follow the instructions.

One detail: when splicing the core only, I prefer the Brummel splice for extra safety. There are online instructions somewhere, but I can't remember where. I probably have them. If you are interested, just let me know.

Cheers,

Luiz
