Hey everyone great Fourm. I am new to the Houston TX area and need some help. I sail a Prindle 16 and need to know where to go, where not to go, where to put in and so on. Any help would be great, I look forward to sharing info with everyone. Now go sail and quit talking about it.

The most obvious place to sail in Houston is Galveston beach (on the gulf). I used to live in Houston from '79 to '88. Another place that rings a bell is Lake Conrad although I do not know the size of this lake or the distance from Houston. I know Galveston is about an hours drive. Let me know what you find out.

Thanks Fred, I have been off Galveston as well as Kemah. Lake Conroe is another target I am just not sure how the power boaters are there. Thanks for the feedback I will let you know what I come up with

Check out the Texas City Dike. A great group of sailors hang down toward the end of the dike. They even have a web page: http://texascitydike.is.dreaming.org/

Or better yet, head over to the Beaumont/Port Arthur area and sail with us on Sabine Lake.

Basically drive about 3.5 miles until you get to a beach on the left, look for the catamarans. If you havn't gone far enough there will be rocks on the left. If you go too far there will be posts and ropes in the water to protect swimmers. If you have gone way too far, there is a marina and the end of the dike.

If you want to store your boat mast up, there is Maudlin's just south of Kemah.

We are having an informal race from the TCD to Redfish this weekend with food and Sustinance back on the dike at the finish.
Take I45 south to 1764 go left till it ends take a 100ft rt then left onto the dike and go 6.5 mi till you see all of the other sails. we are going down tonight and will stay till sun. you can also go to www.texascitydike.com

Great bunch of sailors you can bring meat to cook or not.

We have a great little beach in the marina at the Port Author Yacht Club. Carpet at the edge of the water is nice on the hulls but slick on the feet. We are about 90 miles from houston. Sabine Lake is really nice for cat sailing.
