Last night Stan Woodruff passed away in his sleep after a long battle with cancer. He will missed. Mark roundings will be much quiter in the future. Too quiet! Rick
When I moved to Michigan in 1985 and joined the Hobie fleet, there was this old guy who was always letting people know exactly where he was coming from - loudly. Stan Woodruff had been one of the Detroit fleet founders and biggest promoters.
I'll never forget a downwind start where Stan plowed into the fleet (with all rights) and bellowed, "Get outta my way!"
I also remember being a judge when he was protested for swearing at someone during a race.
Sharon's quiet demeanor was the perfect counterpoint to Stan's boisterous nature.
They were greatly missed when the moved to Florida, and I am saddened to hear of Stan's passing.

I remember with great pleasure, Stan sitting on his 14 in front of the Diamond Lake Yacht Club holding court with us newbies. We knew by his demeanor that sailing was truly a life adventure.
Last night he saw a concert with Sevovia and Hendrix, today its Sunfish's with Charley Barr and Tom Blackaller.
Fair winds, our friend.

While I never had the pleasure of meeting Stan, one does not need to spend much time here to see the impact he had on so many of our cat sailing friends.
Rest in peace, Stan. Condolences to Sharon, his family and friends.
