As I understand it, the Mosquito is allow to race in open events as an F16 if you are sailing 1-Up. I can't find the reference anymore, but that's what I remember.

Note that the Mosquito is mentioned in the list of boats on formula16.net.

Three quotes to answer the question:

The Mosquito is a dispensated class under the F16 rules. It is actually too light to fit the F16 rules but because the rig size and platform width are well under the maximums allowed, the Mosquito is accepted in Open F16 Events (Tim Shepperd).

The Mosquito is part of the growing F16 movement and is dispensated for being underweight according to the F16 box rule (Mosquito flyer).

The F16 association also has an Open F16 division, which allows grandfathered and dispensated f16s such as the taipan 4.9+spin and the Mosquito+spin to race in the F16 competition, but with their own boat specific yardsticks (80 for the mossie+kite for example) (MCGriffith).

thanks for your time and info
because i am new to the mosquito class i heard that you could enter f16 class
even having saying this i think i would not enter a f16 event
having seen sone of the new f16 boats (nacra viper)i think the new hi teck set ups would be faster than a mosquito
this is only my opion
thanks

I believe it you sailed the Mosquito to its rating, you'd do just as well in the F16 fleet as the new, high-tech craft. Or at least that's how it's supposed to work...
