It seems that it's time to start doing something about accom for Nats, unless you want to miss out (apparently it does get booked out). As seen at the start of this thread Peter N has booked, in a cabin I think.
Garry J has asked me to post the following info "I have booked my site at the yacht club end of the park, and asked them to keep that unpowered area for Mossies, they said they would. I forgot to let everyone know, too much going on. There is a powered area next to the unpowered area, some may like power, these areas are a bit of a distance from the toilets, but was good last time we were there, a push bike is handy. It was good all being camped together, apart from the cabin dwellers, mention you are part of the Mossie swarm when booking."

well I'm booked in now, near the toilet block, well away from the grumpy old men. So looks like Mossies will be spread all over the place, no sites left along the shore, and not alot of others, so you had better hurry up and get booked in if you aren't already.
If there are any Croweaters lurking, how many and what eateries are in town, in other words, will we have to cook ourselves or are there eating out/ take away options?

There's about 3 take away food joints a pub and two super markets plus a bottle shop. They've had a heads up so should stock up on everything. Murray Bridge about 80km drive is a big regional centre with everything you need and Adelaide is less than an hour from there. I've been busy getting my couple of Mozzy's ready for the Lake Eyre regatta at Lake Hope and will probably see you at the Nats.

Yep! Got it thanks! It seems that I have to have my boat re measured since it's changed states and hasn't been measured for a while. It's not on the list on the webpage. I've organised this for State Title weekend (Thanks Peter!) then will be able to nominate.

Haven't been to Meningie before, is it one of those venues where it's handy to have a bike to travel from the camp park to the yacht club? Hope so, I have just set up the Mossie trailer to carry the bike, it was already set up for kayak and camping gear . Not sure if I will bring a sailboard, may run out of room for the Mossie .
Merry Christmas all, look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Am finaly nearly packed but not taking the Kayak won't have enough lesiure time, will need to go sailing before the Nats, still have a few things to sort, with all this new rigging.
Hitting the road tomorrow arvo, but only for a few hours, will get serious about driving New Years Eve and arrive New years Day, hopefully with time to set up the big Tarp and little Tent before dark I hope.
When are the SA crew likely to arrive?

The problem with winning the "old farts" trophy is that it implies age, which also implies possible memory problems and also means that it may be hard to remember to bring it back the next year!
Some Eastern cultures treat it as a delicacy . . I believe the back fillet can be marinated into an awesome treat. For the rest of us it is a pest of inland waters and is illegal to throw back. European Carp.

Don't worry about the umbrellas you guys are in for a treat, not too hot, not too cold. No rain, S to W wind forecast up to Thursday which is flat and fast, should have good sea breeze kick in after lunch each day. Heard someone say that some boats are not doing the spin nats because they are worried about breaking the boat for the Nats, one of the guys at the club asked if you had considered spin nats to be held after the main nats in future years.

Dont worry about damage with spinnaker, all got throuh in excess of 20knots without a problem. It was the non spinnaker boats that where t scared to go out and practice. I'm happy to sail and win whatever, they are all National titles.

Two 2-up boats, sloop rigged I presume. I haven't seen a sloop rigged Mossie with spinnaker; any pics available of that? Could someone write a brief description of the racing please? Congrats to the 4! place getters.
Hi Greg/Debra, Difficult with my fingers to do to much posting by phone.
Yes there have always been sloop mossies racing with kite, that's the only way they race in South Africa, but as most Mossies race.cat rigged in OZ so do the Spinnaker boats.
Spinnaker titles ended up with just 4 races in one day. Only 3 boats started before the time limit expired for the first race, it was very windy and most didn't expect a start. The other 3 races the wind moderated from frightening to fresh by the last, with rig rattling gusts upwind. Daniel Stone sailed consistently faster upwinds than anybody else including the sloop. Matt Stone tried to follow my lead using the kite when most left them in the chute, but swam twice as a result. I finally came undone capsizing in the last run on what was the final gybe, the pack went past now all flying spinnakers as the wind had dropped a little and they got braver and that was the end of the racing. Daniel was incredibly consistent in difficult conditions, sailing more cautiously than me downwind but still put the spinnaker up more than most for a deserved result.
must go jobs to do on the boat, invitation race for no Spinnaker titles starts this arvo, wind is up already hope it's not to much like yesterday, that frown up the top is supposed to be here, b#@ phone.

Well where well into it now, after the first day of big winds, which turned in to survival of the fittest, with less than half the fleet finishing, yesterday left us drifting around in the morning. But the afternoon made up for it with excelent conditions peaking around 20 knots, which had most dragging themselves up the shore after the racing finished at 5 o'clock. Enjoying the rest day under a shady tree by the lake is the major activity. today.

Liz and I manned a rescue boat again today, slow delayed start to the day lovely 6 to 12kt race before lunch, fantastic couple of races after lunch which finished in proper wind and 3ft chop. Enjoyed watching it, had to jump in and help right a boat so I can say I was on a Mozzy at the Nationals. A boat put a hole in another one at the wing mark I think, I didn't see it, redress protest tomorrow to be sorted out. Saw a boat run over and break another boats rudder from behind on Wednesday. Heard a bit of discussion that sounded to me like Mozzys are not using the new two boat length rule at marks still working on overlap. Few people have let their sheets off when capsized but the sheet hasn't run through so they can't right I waited untill all the other boats were gone and then told them to let sheet out and they pulled the sheet through, something to check if your boat wont come up pull the sheet through as the sail was full of water and the masts were bending at a fantastic angle. Gary was looking good today and decided to wash his sails but worked his way back through a fair bit of the fleet. The two young girls had a blinder in race one with a win by a fair margin.

Thanks for the update Jeff. I think maybe we'll come next year and sail in the invitation race, then we will be able to say that we have been on a Mossie at the Nationals too.
Are the latest results up yet? I can't find them on SailRes.

If you like wind like I do you would have loved doing this Nationals, I only watched it for 3 days didn't see it today but heard there was plenty of cool southerly wind with punch again. I personally think that the worse sailor you think you are the more you should do the nationals because you learn so much that you are a much better sailor when you go home. When I did the Nacra nationals I was quite happy that I came second last I was expecting last but I win a lot more races now. I don't know why the Mozzy guys aren't posting results or updating this forum might be some action once they get home

Well as usual the Mossie Nats where full on , busy on and off the water (socialising) which makes it difficult to post at the event.
Link to full results is on National Mossie website.
For me it was full of great racing and winding it up without needing to race the last 2 races certainly took the pressure off allowing for a relaxing end to the series. But the camraderie and socialising make the Nats worth attending on their own, so anybody that missed it should make sure they don't next year.
All races that where succesfully completed where sailed in trapezing conditions, so I think it would be fare to describe this last Nats as a windy one. With Tuesday and Friday peaking somewhere around frightening . This caused a lot of DNF's up to half the fleet , which was dissapointing as it meant the racing was not great for more than 1/2 the fleet in a few races.
For those at the front it was all fast and furious and I enjoyed it alot of course winning helps . But I would still rather the wind had been lighter and all present had been able to enjoy it more, but I guess thats the way it goes last years Nats where not so windy, so I hope all that found the going tuff, get more time on the water before next Nats and or experience under their belts before next year and get too enjoy it as much as I did.
