17 LUFF TRACK: Anybody here replaced theirs? Mine is chipped at the top and the boltrope jumps out of the track when taking down the mainsail. Do you have to pull the masthead assembly off the top and take the old tracks out of the top, or do you separate the comptip from the mast and pull the luff tracks out through the bottom? How do you grab the thing for removal and more importantly, how do you push the new pieces of skinny plastic back in there without breaking it?

Hobie 17
"MISTER LUCKY"
Cary: Do not take the masthead off or separate the comptip from the mast. Pry the luff track off at the bottom, and pull the track down. The plastic track will open up to allow removal from the comptip. Replace the new track the samewqay, feeding from the bottom. The base of the new plastic luff will expane to fit on the track. The last part, at the base will snap in. Check your masthead with the sail up. If it is not properly aligned, the boltrope is pulled back, and cracks the luff track. I have changed two luff tracks, it is not too hard.

Caleb Tarleton
