Looking for an answer, I came upon this interesting site with all thinkable and unthinkable cat types.

http://www.abenteuer-catsegeln.de/sports_catamarans.html#P

Kl was a French cat but does't exist anymore.

I don't know anything about the boat, (never heard of it), but looks like a cool boat. The problem with bastard boats is sourcing parts. If you're comfortable making your own parts, or making other things work it could be a fun unit.

I'm boatless.

I used to single hand a Nacra 5.2 and it is a great boat. It can become a bit of a handful in a fresh breeze without some crew, but it is fun and fast. I don't think $1600 is a bad price as long as it doesn't need a lot of work.

Oh yeah... definitely better than a Hobie 16. The hulls have really good volume and you can drive it pretty hard. I've dug the hulls down to the front beam and as soon as I depower they will pop right back up. I never flipped my 5.2 because I was afraid I could not right it, so I always sailed conservatively and with other boats around. I weigh about 170 lbs and could have probably righted it with a large bag.
I sold it a while ago and have regretted it ever since. Now I'm having trouble budgeting in another boat, but I'm still looking. I'm hoping to get into a good used Nacra 18 Square but they seem to be pretty rare.

I like the H16 but I sail primarily in the bay and the water is flat. I have found that even single-handed I could not push the H16 as hard as my N5.2. Though in the H16's defense, I'm pretty sure it was not set up properly and raking the mast back might have settled it a bit. With crew, the H16's lee bow would get lower and lower as you sheet the main. It was a balance of power vs. pearling.

and my crew who is not over reliable is about the same size as me
hence the need for single handed will the n5.2 carry weight well?

It carries the weight much better than the H16, though at almost 500 pounds of combined crew weight, you might want to look for something bigger.

its a bugger if i had a reliable crew it would be easy as we have a lot of hurricane 5.9 very similar to a tornado but solo i dont think so i was hoping a n5.2 might cover the solo plus the the crew properly not racing just fun and on nice summer days the 2 kids and the misses

You're right. the 5.2 is a good mix for both crew and single. It really is a blast single.

Hi Billy very true but the narca look so much better I feel than a h16 or a dart 18 and the h18is a monster to move about on the steep slippage we have just so heavy
