Here is the official announcement from Corpus Christi Yacht Club on the dates, regatta chair, and PRO for the 2014 F18 Nationals. Please share!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Corpus Christi Yacht Club is officially announcing that the 2014 United States F18 National Championships will start on Monday, October 20th and conclude on Friday, October 24th. A practice race will be held on Sunday, October 19th.

Matha Avery, the Vice Commodore of the Corpus Christi Yacht club, will serve as the regatta chair for the event. Mark Foster, a US Sailing National Race Officer, will serve as the PRO. He has served as the PRO for the J/80 World Championship (for which CCYC was awarded the 2006 St. Petersburg Trophy), 2013 US Sailing Youth Championships, 2011 Melges 24 Worlds, and the 2003 Laser North American Championship.

The US F18 Nationals will be held on beautiful Corpus Christi bay. In general, Corpus Christi winds are very predictable. Corpus Christi has a regular sea breeze of 15 plus knots out of the southeast (130 degrees). The wind typically builds uniformly across the bay from the southeast. In October, daytime highs range from 79 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit, daily lows are in the range of 65 to 73 degrees Fahrenheit, with water temperatures in the upper 70’s. Corpus Christi bay has essentially no current and tides fluctuate approximately one foot daily. Corpus Christi Bay is one of the largest bays on the gulf coast and has ample room to accommodate a large F18 fleet.

The Corpus Christi Yacht Club is working with both national and regional F18 sailors to make this a premier event. The CCYC welcomes input from anyone in the sailing community as they prepare to put on the event. In addition, the CCYC welcomes any volunteers or sponsorship for the event. More details on the event will be released in upcoming months as they become available.
