I sold some stuff to a guy who was in the process of building a wooden car. I had thoughts in my head of a go-cart built of 2x4s. So I finally checked out the link, it's actually pretty impressive. Thought you guys might like to see it, I'm not sure that his techniques can be useful to boat building though.

He also sails a Hobie 18 in NC.

Over the years I've heard repeatedly that wood is obsolete and inevitably someone disproves the assumption.

This is by far the best example I've seen.

WOOD IS GOOD!

while I absolutely love what they're doing on that site, would any of those designs pass a DOT inspection or IHSI crash test?

Still safer than a motorcycle.

Was all of that tooling for one car or are they going to make more?

I assume one, when I met the guy the university part of the build was done. He was in process of moving the car to his basement and was re-building and making changes. Sounds like he had crudely got it driving at that point.

He bought a 10' sliding glass door from me so he could get it back out of the basement when finished. smile

It's an interesting project, but I don't feel that it proves wood as a practical material for a car. I think that he and everyone else knows that it would be faster, easier, and cheaper to use other materials.

I'm pretty sure the last few years of the Corvette the floors are wood framed.
