If a sale is contingent on a sandwich press, I'll have it installed.

if your boat draws less than 3 feet, you should be fine almost everywhere. You can see the bottom = time to turn smile

if you cut in at Big Marco pass, there are two fixed bridges (I think 40+ feet clearance).

with that speed demon, I think the straight shot on the outside route might work best. Cut a left at Romano between the sand bars, keep Gullivan bay marker on your left, and it's a straight shot to Cape Sable.

I guess the strategy call would be to continue directly to Duck Key and run north (ala Steeplechase) or hang a left at Cape Sable and run that route ...?

You going to have a spot transponder or anything I can keep an eye on your progress? It would be nice to watch that thing fly by... while I work on my tan and drinking muscles smile

I can just picture a Foreman grill screwed down somewhere bouncing open/closed as it goes down the road. laugh

Good conversation piece at the very least.

There will be a spot tracker page but Alan has all of that info. I'll have to get him to give me links to share.

Florida bay is an option but it's risky...apparently the water can drain away for miles should the wind switch and blow out of the north. Two dudes were stranded on a 12 foot boat for three days trying to cut through Florida bay in one of the recent events.

That method works only works when the sun is up ;-)

I don't remember a lot of details, we were racing. Wind 15-18. I'll ask A Florida Redneck if he wants to further elaborate.

The dome houses?

Well, Jake, if you believe the NOAA forecast I don't think you're in for a record-breaking year, but it could be a very nice sail in your light air rocket.

Weak front appears to move through Thursday night with Atlantic High dominating the rest of the weekend. Easterly direction (ENE / ESE) and light (5-10 kts) which should keep the water pretty flat near shore.

A bit more breeze as you near Cape Sable, mainly out of ENE which might make your Steeplechase routing a bit more feasible?

Sunny and warm, too.

With water in the gulf in the low 60's and air temps in the upper 70's ... I am expecting a nice sea breeze all weekend long in my neck of the woods, don't know why it would be any different south of here.

water temperature at "the turn" (Naples/Marco) is closer to 73 F, which isn't that much cooler than the air temperature.

Current temp near Cape Sable is 77

The frost is seven feet thick in exposed areas around here. I've never heard of it going that deep. The septic lines at the shop have had to been blasted three times this winter to clear ice and keep the drains working.

Only two more months left!!! sick

I'm boatless.

You're blasting your septic lines? I don't even want to know what that could possibly mean.

We have about a foot of snow left from the past few weeks of storms. It warmed up over the weekend, thawing the top of any exposed areas and making a muddy mess as the two feet of snowpack starting thawing. Now we're back to single digits at night, just in time for March.

At least Madcatter is less than 3 months away!!!

Finally figured out how to rig the screecher.

Touched 8 knots in what looked like 5 TWS (barely ripples on the water).

Too bad the pole's too short to leave the jib up.
